is it possible to close a running vi within the running vi, to exit the vi and to shut down the pi ?
My Vi is running after booting the pi. ok so far.
Now I am looking for a possibilty to close the running vi, exit it (may be with a stop button…) and to shutdown the pi.
Are there any ideas ?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions..
Maybe there is a way to create a Linux service that gets launched at startup, before any other services, to monitor the specific VI that gets launched upon OS start up (each startup service has an unique process ID). Once that VI quits, its corresponding ID will no longer be valid, then your service can initiate a boot based on that. How to implement that is above my pay grade though as it gets pretty knee deep into Linux. 🙂
thank you for your answer.
I hope there will be a soon update for the PI compiler and there will be an possibiltiy to access the shell within a vi.
I solved the problem I had as following:
I am writing information to shutdown the pi in a file on the pi when the vi is stopping. Also I wrote a Linux script which is running every 5 seconds with a cron job. The script is opening the file and if the conditions written in the file are true, the script closes every vi and is shutting down the pi. Until now everything is working fine…
But it would be much more comfortabel to access the shell within a vi and to run python scripts.
